Northern NSW Flood Grant List
Below is a list of grants and services available to the residents and businesses of Northern NSW following the unprecedented flooding. We will try to keep this list updated as much as possible.

Personal
- The Disaster Recovery Payment is $1000 per adult and $400 per child for more info go to Services Australia
- Replacement Documents destroyed in floods at no charge at evac centres Services NSW
- The Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA) is an ongoing payment for a maximum of 13 weeks. This is up to $677 per fortnight, depending on your personal circumstances. Services Australia
- Disaster Relief Grants are available through Resilience NSW. This can cover emergency food, clothing and accommodation, repair or replacement of essential furniture and personal effects, and essential repairs to housing to a habitable condition. To apply for this, phone 13 77 88 and ask for the Disaster Relief Grant administered by Resilience NSW.
- The Australian Taxation Office has also announced support including extra time to pay tax or lodge tax returns, activity statements or other obligations, and are prioritising any refunds owed to you. For more information go Here.
- Flood Clean-up Package – the clean-up covers both insured and uninsured properties and assists with the clean-up and restoration of flood-damaged assets. Click here to apply:
- Australian Red Cross will provide $500 per household, applications will open on Friday 18 March 2022. Once open, you can apply Here
- Temporary housing support is available. This includes hotel accommodation, grants for rental costs, motor homes and temporary dwelling options. To register, click Here:
- Disaster Relief Grants are available to cover replacement of essential furniture and personal effects, emergency food, clothing and accommodation, repair or, and essential repairs to housing to a habitable condition. Click Here to apply:

- Any one or more of these options are available for individuals and families. Click this link to Register for housing support
- Immediate hotel accommodation – providing immediate accommodation to give people time to make interim arrangements to find a temporary home. This is provided through Link2Home.
- Grants towards initial rental costs – providing a scalable grant to individuals and families for short term temporary accommodation while their home is being repaired.
This grant will be available to people not otherwise covered by insurance, and will increase according to the size of the household:
– For a 1-person household $6000
– For a 2-person household $7200
– For a 3-person household $9200
– For a 4-person household $12,400
– For a 5-person household $15,200
– For a 6-person household $18,000
– For a household with more than 6 people, the cost will increase by $2800 for each additional household member. - Recreation camps – providing additional medium-term accommodation through camps at Camp Koinonia, Lake Ainsworth Sport & Recreation Centre, and Camp Drew, to accommodate over 200 people.
- Mobile Motor Homes – utilising existing caravan parks, and establishing new sites to provide medium-term housing, with the provision of additional accommodation and recovery services.
- Airbnb and Red Cross – the Red Cross has agreed to operate a broker service to connect displaced people in need of accommodation with available properties. The Red Cross will appoint full-time staff to manage this service for a period of four months.
- Temporary Dwelling program – extending a temporary housing program that allows people to stay on their land in a temporary dwelling (including caravans, demountable homes etc). This temporary dwelling program is most suited to those that need to continue managing stock and farmland while rebuilding.
- Housing Flood Recovery Service – providing dedicated assistance to people with complex needs to move into longer-term accommodation through deployment of case managers and dedicated support staff.
NEW ZEALANDERS
Disaster Recovery Allowance
Support for New Zealanders who have lost income as a direct result of the floods in Northern NSW starting in February 2022.

Support for eligible New Zealanders adversely affected by the Northern NSW floods in February 2022.
Business
Disaster relief loans for Small business – Small businesses who have been directly affected by a declared natural disaster including floods, fires or storm damage, may be eligible for low interest loans of up to $130,000. Visit here for more info.
Rebuilding For A Stronger Australia – BizRebuild is a business-led initiative, backed by the Business Council through the Strong Australia Network to provide practical and on the ground assistance to small and local businesses
Business NSW has been closely monitoring the impact of the extreme weather and flooding in NSW. We have opened access to our Workplace Advice Line, free to all businesses in NSW impacted by the current flood disaster.
The Advice Line can help you manage issues like employees not being able to work because they cannot travel to work or safely enter the workplace because of flooding.
Normally available to members only, the service will be available for the next four weeks at no charge to all businesses in impacted areas. Call 13 29 59 between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
We urge all our members to be prepared and keep safe as the crisis spreads along the coast and into metropolitan areas. If you find yourself in an emergency situation, please follow the advice and direction of the relevant authorities.
We are working closely with our local chambers and the NSW Government to ascertain appropriate support that can be provided through the disaster, clean-up and recovery.
Grants for small businesses – up to $50,000 is available to cover costs including repairing damaged fittings and equipment and replacing stock. Call Service NSW on 13 77 88 or visit Service NSW to register.
$200,000 grants for medium sized businesses (over 20 employees) to assist with clean-up and essential repairs. This program will be run by the Department of Regional NSW and will open in the coming weeks for applications. For more information go Here
BizRebuild is offering a $2,000 retooling voucher to help small businesses affected by the March 2022 storms and floods. Businesses can complete an online application Here
Primary Producers
- $75,000 grants for primary producers to cover costs including repairing damaged fencing and equipment, replacing livestock, salvaging crops and restoring fields. - Funding for property assessments and the demolition of those found to be uninhabitable.This is an ‘opt-in’ program for property owners to cover structural assessments, demolition and waste removal costs. This program will be run by the Department of Regional NSW and will open in the coming weeks for applications.
- Critical Producer Grants for significantly impacted primary producers (in addition to existing grants). For example, a farmer can apply for herd rebuilding, replacement of fences, and other damaged infrastructure. This program will be run by the Department of Regional NSW and will open in the coming weeks for applications.
- Primary Industry Grants for projects that support sector-wide recovery. For example, projects that improve supply chain and building industry resilience. This program will be run by the Department of Regional NSW and will open in the coming weeks for applications.
- $50 million package to help the recovery of big businesses that are major employers in the region. This funding will be tailored to businesses as they apply.
- $120 million Local Council Support Package to address urgent operational challenges.
- Freight subsidies for primary producers – up to 50% of the cost on the carriage of
livestock and fodder to help primary producers. This will be available through the Rural Assistance Authority, call 1800 678 593 to apply. - $145 million for the urgent repair and replacement of water and sewerage critical infrastructure
